Sorry folks, I didn’t manage to get out for a proper field visit this month.
I did however get these pictures of a Tawny Frogmouth (Podargus strigoides) nesting at Narrandera Common.
My thanks to the people I met who told me where to find it. Tawny Frogmouths are one of my favourite birds, and this a) only the second time I’ve seen any wild, and b) the first time I’ve seen any in my patch, even though I know there are a lot around here.
Other cool bird encounters this month included arriving at one of my regular workplaces to see a whole bunch of White-winged Choughs feeding with a bunch of Apostlebirds near where I park, and arriving at the same workplace on another day to find a couple of Grey-crowned Babblers playing in a tree by the gate.
October is going to be hellaciously busy, and I do not anticipate having the time for a field visit at any point, but I will carry a camera around with me all month and see what incidental sightings I happen across.
